Free Gun Locks Available at the ECA

As digital reporter for WOOD TV 8, Matt Jaworski, reported on April 15, 2024, firearm injuries became the most common cause of death in children in both the United States and Michigan in 2020. In light of these numbers, the State of Michigan appropriated $500,000 in funding from the 2024 fiscal year budget to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHH) who is partnering with local health and police departments to keep our children and families safe from gun violence. These agencies are working together to provide free cable-style gun locks to any gun owners who need to protect children from unsecured firearms.

And so the Eastown Community Association (ECA) decided to request free cable-style gun locks from Captain Cathy Williams, the South Service Area Commander who serves Eastown. Captain Williams quickly delivered and so we now have free gun locks available in the ECA office located at 415 Ethel Avenue SE. If you are a gun owner who needs to protect children from unsecured firearms, please stop by the ECA office to pick up a free gun lock and sign our gun safe storage pledge.
